A tale of 3 charities…

As I sat in the opulent offices of the cavernous LATalkRadio studios, I looked across at the empty chair where Wendi Cooper usually sits, and shouted,”Wendiiiiii. Can you hear meeee?” But alas, she could not hear me, Peter Soby, because she was in Las Vegas at the ERA D2C 2013 Convention. So I got to be Wendi Cooper this week. And since I was Wendi Cooper, I brought Kathy Christopherson in to be my me (Since I am usually Wendi’s sidekick)! And it’s confusing banter just like that that got the show started off this week!
But in all seriousness, I had a great time filling in for Wendi. And Kathy did an amazing job filling in for me! When Wendi handed me the keys to the show, I decided that I wanted to do a show spotlighting 3 Los Angeles-based charities. First off, Fritz Coleman, the extraordinary weatherman from NBC4, called in, and he talked about the charity called, Valley Interfaith Council (VIC).
Next, we got a phone call from Sylvie De Toledo, the Founder of Grandparents as Parents (GAP). Sylvie is an amazing woman and she talked about the organization and also the fact that she is one of the Top 25 nominees in the CNN Heroes showcase. And this is out of over 10,000 individuals and organizations nominated!
Finally, Kathy spoke on behalf of the amazingly compassionate charity called Dirty Dog Squad, an animal rescue organization.
We certainly missed Wendi this week and I look forward to having her back next week and hearing all about her adventures at the Direct 2 Consumer Convention. But today was a really nice breather to spotlight some amazing individuals and charities doing some incredible things for people and animals! Stay tuned next week for Wendi and more direct response!
Below are the websites of all the charities mentioned in the show. You should go to each of them and learn something about them and perhaps donate your time or money. Thanks for listening!
Valley Interfaith Council (VIC) www.VIC-LA.org
Grandparents as Parents (GAP) www.grandparentsasparents.org
Dirty Dog Squad www.dirtydogsquad.org
Project Don’t Go Back (PDGB) www.PDGB.org – I did a “shout out” at the end of the show for this organization. They are amazing as well. They are doing outreach for men who live in halfway houses who have been released from prison and jail and offer them aide and support in their transition back to the outside world. Be sure to check them out.

Fritzmania!

On The C Spot last Thursday was Fritz Coleman, Southern California’s “Best Weathercaster” – [NBC] Channel 4 News since 1982; a stand up comedian and  serious humanitarian, Fritz has been honored for his dedication to community service many times.  In 1999 the City of Los Angeles named Fritz Coleman the “Treasure of Los Angeles.” He received the  Humanitarian of the Year Award from the US House of Representatives for his fundraising efforts on behalf of the American Red Cross.  In 2004 Fritz received two Humanitarian Awards, one from the Shelter Partnership and the other from the California Hospital Medical Center.  Fritz’s love for life and family is his nature.   No wonder he also loves to be a stand-up comic.  Fritz has performed at The Improv and The Ice House, and on September 28, 2013 he’ll bring his act,  “Fritz and Friends an Evening of Comedy” to VIC (Valley Interfaith Council) www.vic-la.org, in support of its assistance program for the elderly.  What drives Fritz Coleman?  What’s it like to be on TV for 31 years talking about the weather? How did Fritz inspire me to get closer to the open mic?    You may be thinking, “what has this got to do with marketing?”   It has everything to do with marketing! Whenever I can use my show to bring attention to serious and worthy causes then The C Spot IS the marketing tool.  Internet radio reaches around the world.  Internet radio lives online in podcasts forever.  It’s available to share and download 24/7 365!   What better way to keep a cause alive than to do so through Internet Radio?  It’s the smartest marketing tool today!   It is our responsibility as humans to use our voice to make this world a better place.  Of course, in true Cooper style, I reveal secret Fritz sightings as far back as 1989 on Sunset Blvd., and bring to light 3 degrees of separation that we share on many levels.  Remember, September 28, 2013 at 6PM at VIC 818-880-4842 ext 3002 for donations, tickets and VIP seating and reception – it’s sure to be Fritzmania!  www.Vic-la.org – delivering over 350,000 meals on wheels a year and so much more!  Thanks for listening!

BEFORE NOW – Rock and Roll with a Twist!

Jose Luis “Chocs” Campos sent me an email asking if he could be on The C Spot to promote his band, Before Now, and their gig at The Mint on August 16th, in Los Angeles.  I didn’t hesitate, even though Alternative Rock is not my thing, as I admired his passion to market the band.  I agreed as long as we talked about what it takes to self market an Alternative Rock and Roll band and build a following in today’s digital space.  Chocs came to L.A. In 2004 from Mexico, to pursue his dreams and is quite the established “new generation master of percussion.”  Chris Poulson, drummer turned Lead Vocalist, joined us in-studio.  Khris Campbell and Kevin Wolfe, the other 2 band members unfortunately couldn’t join us.  I fell in love.   With these two extremely talent young men with a desire to Make it No Matter What!  This is what I’m talk’n about when I say, “bringing a product to market even if the product is you”, and why I love The C Spot.  “Rock and Roll is really here to stay!”  http://www.beforenowmusic.com tells it all!  http://www.joseluiscampos.com/   http://www.kevinwolfe.com/   http://www.kriscampbell.com/  http://www.chris-poulson.com/  – Enjoy!

Does it always rain on Portland?

This week I too am a listener and what a fun, interesting, wacky, eclectic, looking-for-love, subconscious kind of Valentine’s Day show today! With great featured guest, Certified Hypnotherapist JOE TABBANELLA, his wife [and former guest] ANTOINETTE PERAGINE, (Tony and Tiny of Tony and Tina’s Off Off Broadway play) and gracious callers Portland and Jennifer, discuss how to use your mind to get what you want out of life.  Then there was Peter who was stuck in the parking garage because the elevator wasn’t working and since Peter is confined to a wheel chair Tracy decided she would patch him from the depths of “Hell”.  Although I have to disagree on “Hell” as I think the parking garage is a lovely place where I find Carlos, an angel in disguise each week.  Tracy Metro does take us on a wonderful departure from “marketing” talk but I’m back on the 21st to get those engines started again!  Take a listen and learn how to get what you want in life and how hypnosis can help!

Life is Better with Peter

Today’s show is all about challenge and inspiration.  Peter Soby, my right hand, friend and social media master is my guest today.  At the ripe age of 19 years old Peter, already a successful entrepreneur, found himself paralyzed from a spinal cord injury from the neck down, after diving into unknown shallow waters one hot summer night.  I thought it was appropriate to end 2012 with a show dedicated to Peter because he brings to The C Spot a POV on life and it’s challenges, on being an entrepreneur and how face challenges head on to follow your dreams.  Peter’s story about coming to Hollywood and his run ins with famous producers is hilarious.  A writer, producer and director Peter’s true passion is on opening a Donut Shop by 2014.  I know. But that’s what he wants – and I’m sure he will get it!  This is one of those stories that make us look in the mirror and say “What the heck am I complaining about?”   Personally, I believe there is always a light at the end of the tunnel and Peter Soby  reminds me every day of how life is to be celebrated even if it means spending it in a wheelchair.  The most gracious and humble person I know that is truly committed to making the lives of those around him better.  Let the next 50 minutes change your life.  You can contact Peter at petersoby@gmail.com  or find him on Facebook.  Thanks for a great year everyone!

It’s Data and Dollars Dude!

My guest today is amazing – and I love her to death!  Nancy Duitch is a successful and influential entrepreneur and CEO with thirty years retail and direct to consumer marketing experience.  With direct response quickly becoming the key to success in today’s marketing world it’s time to embrace the proper way to execute a marketing campaign – and we really let everyone know exactly what it takes and what it doesn’t take!  There is just so much information in this show that I can’t find the words – so take a listen to this powerful 50 minutes whether you are a CMO, brand manager, agency or Inventor – it’s all stuff you need to know!

But wait there’s more!  Between Nancy and I we have grossed over 4 billions dollars in product sales.  That’s right – 4 billion dollars!  @cspottalk  www.cspotrun.com

Keeping up with the Crouthers

Thinking about direct response?  This is a must listen for inventor, entrepreneur, marketer, CMO, ad agencies and brands.

My guest today is Doug Crouthers, currently Director of New Biz at Media Stream Direct, www.mediastreamdirect.com, and one of the smartest guys I know.  Doug has over a decade of experience on the call center side where he worked his way up the ladder at Tony Hoffman Productions from taking sales calls to Vice President of Sales.

I had heard about Doug’s work at Irwin Naturals where he built a call center from the ground up in record time and held the post of VP of Teleservices from late 2005 until 2010.   Since he came to Irwin a month after my departure in late 2005, I thought of him as an urban legend up until a year ago when we met at an industry event.  Never having talked for more than 10 minutes since I realized today before the show that we had an enormous amount in common.  It was like I had found someone that spoke my native tongue in a foreign country.  You see there are a few things that are huge bones of contention for me and today I was finally able to discuss openly CLIENT SIDE CAMPAIGN CONSULTING/MANAGEMENT.  We talk in depth about what it really takes to offer this service and why it’s critical to understand the scope of work and the responsibilities that comes with the title.  After you listen – ask yourself….”Are you in good hands?” @cspottalk  cspotrun.com

Concept Creative Content Cauly & Cooper

Pat Cauley, Creative Producer for Raymond Entertainment in Los Angeles (raymondentertainment.com), joined me in-studio this past Thursday to discuss his secret to creating content that sells your product (even if that product is YOU).  As an award winning journalist, Pat has emerged as a distinct voice in the direct response space – not an easy accomplishment!   Meeting Pat when he was just a puppy, way back in the day,  it thrills me to see what a creative force he has become.  We’re candid and fun, and at times, a bit all over the place, but that’s what makes The C Spot a great listen. Hit us up! @patcauley @cspottalk

This vlog below actually features my social media guy, Peter Soby. I just wasn’t in the right mood to be in front of the camera, but I am holding the camera and you will definitely hear me adding my two cents to Peter’s commentary about the show. Besides, Peter showed up wearing a tie… So, I figured it was only apropos to put him on camera!

100 Years in 50 Minutes

Today Katie Williams, President of Ideal Living (Idealliving.com) and pioneer of the infomercial industry; as well as 2011 ERA Lifetime Achievement Honoree; joins Sarina Michaels, Ideal Living’s Director of New Product Development in studio for a remarkable program.  Collectively there is 75 years expertise sitting in the studio, and then..

A surprise call from Kevin Harrington, an original shark on ABC’s Shark Tank; and 2012 ERA Lifetime Achievement Honoree, catches us off guard to share stories that have been buried years, and years.   When humor, passion, advice and opportunity culminate; The C Spot’s raison d’être truly shines.

Layla, darling won’t you ease my worried mind

Since I was at the ERA D2C Conference in Las Vegas this past week, I decided to replay this show with guest Michele Mattia because it’s one of my favorite shows so far this year…

How do you change your life?  How do you take your product, your career, your invention, your passion to the next level?

I loved this show!   Michele Mattia (www.michelemattia.com) is a best selling Author, Inspirational Speaker and Certified Life Design Coach, as well as Creative Strategist.  Usually I’m not at a loss for words about my guest, but this interview turned into 50 minutes of pure inspiration and has left me thinking…everyone will take something away from this show – and how grateful I am to have had Michele on The C Spot.  Once an owner of a successful technology consulting firm in Manhattan, Michele transformed her life after refusing to push a little girl named Layla on a tire swing.  I know that each of you will find a message that will resonate with your soul and put you on the road to finding your purpose in life.
